The Justice Action Group brings together members and friends of Modesto Covenant Church wanting to promote justice, healing, and freedom for the oppressed and marginalized. Focusing on education, advocacy, fund-raising, and prayer, we are a coordinating body that seeks to educate, equip, empower, and mobilize fellow believers to work together for justice. The causes we support include:
- Ending Human Trafficking, Slave Labor, and Sex Trafficking
- Healing victims of sex trafficking
- Encouraging Fair Trade/Fair Wages
- Caring for Orphans
"Justice occurs on earth when power and authority between people is exercised in conformity with God’s standards of moral excellence. . . . Injustice occurs when power is misused to take from others what God has given them, namely, their life, dignity, liberty or the fruits of their love and labor . . . . As it says in Ecclesiastes, “Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun: I saw the tears of the oppressed—and they have no comforter; power was on the side of their oppressors” (Ecclesiastes 4:1). Injustice is the strong using force and deceit to take from the weak" (Gary Haugen, Good News About Injustice)
SAFE FAMILIES FOR CHILDREN
Safe Families for Children helps parents experiencing a temporary crisis arrange for their children to stay with a loving family until the crisis has passed. Volunteers agree to accept children at their own discretion and may limit the length of their involvement. The average child placement is 45 days. Currently, 85% of all families in the program reunite. To find out more about Safe Families for Children go to www.safe-families.org.
