Community Transformation Through Child Sponsorships

Galatians 6:10  "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

Seventy-five years ago, Covenant missionaries began serving the Congolese people. The fruit of their efforts is the Congo Covenant Church, a body of 1,600 congregations, 235,000 members, five hospitals, 90 medical clinics and a school system that serves 60,000 students.

This is a wonderful record, but our Congo brothers and sisters are struggling. Because of a combination of corrupt national leadership, civil war and poverty, the Congo ranks last—187 , 187 out of 187 countries—on  the U.N. Index of Human Development. It has one of the highest rates of malnutrition and 75% of the people have no access to clean water. This is the life of our Congo brothers and sisters.

God has placed on the hearts of our Covenant leaders the commitment to bring about widespread, sustainable community transformation in the area of the Congo Covenant Church. All U.S. Covenanters are invited to come alongside the Congo Covenant and partner with World Vision, the world’s largest Christian development agency, to achieve  this kind of transformation over the next 15 years. World Vision has expertise in sustainable transformation as well as the ability to double the financial contribution of Covenanters through their extensive contacts with other development agencies.

Child Sponsorship :: The Engine of Transformation

We can come alongside our Congo brothers and sisters by making a long-term commitment to child sponsorship. In Covenant Kids Congo, sponsorship benefits your child but also contributes to the transformation of their whole village through community identified projects including:

  • Clean water
  • Food security
  • Basic health care and immunizations
  • School fees and materials
  • Economic development 
  • This transformation process is being facilitated by World Vision but the work will be done by the Congolese people to promote sustainability.

Child sponsorship details include:

  • Choosing a child from a group of child profiles provided by World Vision
  • Receiving communication with the child and updates from the field
  • Helping your own children grow in their awareness of the needy 
  • Sponsoring should be considered a multi-year commitment
  • Costs $40 per month
