Modesto Covenant Church is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The Evangelical Covenant Church is a denomination of more than seven hundred churches in the U.S. and Canada. It was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1885 as a voluntary covenant of churches committed to working together to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Covenant churches emphasize the Bible's witness to new life in Jesus Christ expressed in a day to day walk with the Lord.

Mission Statement

Modesto Covenant Church aims to:

    Honor Jesus Christ as Lord

    Help people become his followers

Trust the Bible as our guide

To carry out this mission, we are committed to the following:

God through Christ is our Focus

Reaching others for Christ is our passion

Authority of the scriptures is our foundation

Caring, authentic community is our witness

Empowerment of people is our means

The Covenant Church adheres to the affirmations of the Protestant Reformation, regarding the Old and New Testament as the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct. The Covenant affirms as central to its life and thought five evangelical emphases:

The centrality of the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16)

A dependence on the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:25)

The necessity of new birth (John 3:3, 14:6)

The reality of freedom in Christ (John 8:31-32; Galatians 5:1)

The church as a fellowship of believers (1 Corinthians 12:12-13)

Affirmations like these are not to be taken as creedal statements.
